Old-Fashioned

You know that I'm a total vintage lover, so - to prove this statement - there are so many old-fashioned things in this outfit. The base here is a bright red coat. It has a military feel to it thanks to the uniform cut that I decided to break down with cute elements, like this bear-eared bowler hat (which is just a burgundy version of the hat featured two posts ago), knitted scarf and gothic lolita platform shoes. The outfit hidden under the coat starts from an edgy black shirt with spiked collar. I softened it again - this time with a lace-trimmed skirt and tights with visible seams, which instantly bring the pinup feel. You might have noticed the mockingjay emblem tied to my bag... Yes, despite the vintage theme going on, this is the outfit I decided to see the brand new Hunger Games movie in - a story set in distant future. Oh, the irony!

The Fashion Language

Hi guys! Not so long ago, I’ve been asked by Smartling, a translation service company that is able to translate website content into multiple languages for many famous brands, to write a post on my very own “fashion language”. The New York Fashion Week is just around the corner. The event, gathering fashionistas from all over the world, will be a wonderful showcase of many trends unique to the particular parts of the globe. That’s why Smartling decided to  celebrate the multicultural aspect of fashion by asking bloggers to describe their “fashion language” or, to put it simply, the way trends from various countries “translate” into their signature style.

You all know that I’m a freak for some languages and cultures. I’ve been proclaiming my love for Russia and Great Britain countless times already. Let’s not forget about Japan and South Korea, too – the Japanese phase might have faded a bit through the years, but, being a dedicated K-pop fan, I’m very up-to-date with what’s in fashion in South Korea. What’s even better, I try to stay away from the blatant ethnic elements that might seem to tackle the cultural appropriation issue (hello, hours spent on Tumblr!) and get my style fix from trends that have naturally emerged in particular subcultures as time passed.

So, are you ready for a quick journey around the world, accompanied by my very own illustrations?

Totally Girly Stuff

See? I told you I'm taking a longer break! My photographer totally deserved it, though. Lots of stuff happened through the last month, so I wasn't in a mood for a photoshoot, either; flannels, skinny jeans and minimal amount of accessories might be comfy and suitable for my smart-and-quirky style, but definitely not outfit post-worthy. Yep, it was that kind of dark, stressfull time when you're not really into wearing anything fancy. It's still not really over, but I'm slowly getting better.
Long time no see, totally girly stuff. I wonder how it is even possible that I haven't shown you this dress up to this moment. It's one of those emergency pieces; nothing to wear? Just take a preppy dress and throw a cardi on it! Anyway, there are two other stars here. One of them is this bear-eared hat (I prefer to see those bumps as horns, though!) that I've found in the darkest corners of Ebay and instantly fell in love with it (I ordered a dark red version, too). I have to be one of the very few Polish fashionistas owning this kind of hat, if not the only one, don't you think so? And I don't even consider myself as a hipster anymore... Well, back to the topic - the other star here is a pair of shiny black oxford shoes that I don't wear very often, but absolutely love them. It was about time to show them on the blog! Even though I finished high school over 4 years ago, this outfit brings that kind of a "back to school" feel that seems to be very appreciated in the blogosphere these days, haha.

Sweetheart

I felt like those Sinsay girls, except for the fact I'm definitely not a skinny sweet sixteen. You know what I'm talking about - wrapping a glamorous one piece into sporty items. This was the case with this lovely sweetheart-neckline type romper that I got from Lookbookstore.co. I've been dreaming of something like this since I've seen a similar one in PSY's Gentleman video (worn by the super sexy Ga In, of course) but... once I got, I had no idea how to style it so that it'd be suitable to wear casually. Believe me, I tried to pair it with an elegant red blazer you've seen a few posts ago and my favourite red heels that I never really wear, but I don't think I'd be able to put up with such an outfit for a whole day (the photoshoot was to be done after work). Being glamour is such a burden, why can't I look quirky and whimsical instead... Oh wait, I can. And I do. Working in advertising offers so much freedom when it comes to everyday fashion.

Schoolgirl

Life brings us the least expected changes. One day you hit the rock bottom, next - you skyrocket as high as you'd never imagine. You might be wondering what's behind this philosophical introduction, but don't worry, here's the explanation. First of all, I've found a new job. In advertising. ADVERTISING. You get it? It's always been, like, my dream job and, although it's hard to believe, IT'S REALLY HAPPENING. All 7 seasons of Mad Men that I've just watched won't go wasted now, haha.
Very personal corner aside, this post is my first blog collaboration ever! This lovely jumpsuit is a courtesy of Lookbookstore.co - they asked me to do two outfit posts. The key theme here are, of course, jumpsuits. Those which I choose look as if they've been made for me to wear them - they're both sooo retro! The piece I'm showing you today fits perfectly into my hipster-ish schoolgirl image. I mixed it with a blazer... or is it a coat actually?... and a beautiful vintage leather bag. What a gem!

M side

You may be wondering what in the earth has happened to that male side of me during the last three posts, in which I've been sporting very feminine outfits. Well, truth to be told, that side of me loves to look smart and since the weather has been terribly hot these days, neatly ironed shirts, cardigans, ties and bowties are at least... uncalled for. If you don't want to melt during your way to and from work, that is. Still, I can't fight the urge to dress up all boy-like from time to time. This is when blazers come in handy. The one I'm showing you here is one of my favourites (right after the Sherlock one from the previous post) - it's absolutely lightweight (even though it doesn't look like this!) and once it gets chilly, I can just button it up for it to serve as a light coat since it's a bit oversized. With a blazer like this, paired with bold jewellery - like this lovely over-the-top lion necklace - I'm ready to smart up any casual outfit, be it even an ordinary loose tee and shorts. Also - you've probably noticed it already since my tan is quite dark, but yes, the white spots on my skin are vitiligo, I absolutely do not intend to photoshop it out from the photos, though.
PS. I've just started publishing my comic online, please take a look at it!

Sherlock in a skirt

I'll say something very controversial, but I really hate BBC Sherlock with a passion. Seriously. It's weird, because I'm totally hooked on everything British and I absolutely LOVED the movie version with Robert Downey Jr. I suppose some of you, dear Readers, have closed the tab with my blog now, but those who weren't put off by what I've written above will get the rest of the story. Now it's clear that I haven't come up with this post's title. Ironically, my dear photographer loves BBC Sherlock. Hey, they say that the opposites attract, right? So, during the photoshoot she just stopped for a while, took a deep breath and said...
"You probably won't be delighted by what I'll say, but you totally bring the Sherlock feel with this hat and blazer".
End of story.
PS. Stay tuned for my first collaboration very very soon!

Blog's first anniversary!

Exactly one year ago I published my first post here. Has anything changed since that time? Not much, I'm still a little snarky bastard disguised as a proper schoolgirl (sometimes as a schoolboy), haha. My style got more polished, even though I still get most of my clothes from secondhands. From time to time, though, I invest a larger sum of money into something really unique. Like those platform sandals. THEY'RE UGLY, I know. So ugly that I dread the moment my family gets to see them! How am I going to explain that I WANTED those shoes to be all ugly, bulky and 90's? That's a tough question. If you haven't realized it yet, I revisited the place I did my first outfit photoshoot in. I even kept the colour scheme similar to the one from the first post. There's a hat, too, but this one is a piece I just bought recently at H&M. The flowers are just a headband tied around it - a little creativity goes a long way.

90's

This outfit may not look like a time travel back to the 90's, but the jelly watch, simple print and a bit of colour blocking certainly do bring that feeling back from at least fifteen years ago. Oh... The bag, you say? Well, that might have been a good reason behind the post's title... Okay, I'll stop with those bad jokes now. This bag was a must. Like, must. Have. As you know, I'm a 90's kid deep down to the bone, so I couldn't resist getting it (after two or three price drops during the sale season). My BFF was, like, "No, you're not allowed to buy it, it's for those cool hipster kids who weren't even born in the 90's!", but this time I decided not to listen to her advice during the shopping. Such an act of bravery. She might be quite persistent, you know.

Edge up

The base of today's outfit is a button-down, kinda pin-up-ish sailor-style dress (so many hyphens in this description!). You can't really see it in its full glory here, but it's just your regular, lightweight summer dress that would stay pretty, but a bit boring if not for the rest of this set. You know that I have this obsession of edging up (is that even an expression?) those neat clothes I wear to work, right? Sneakers were a must, because nothing looks better with a dress than sneakers, but you've already seen them. The denim shirt is a real gem here. Although I found it in a second hand store, it's an actual top quality Pepe Jeans item with lovely prints here and there. Adding spikes, studded headphones and my favourite messenger bag was the next step to make this outfit blog-post-worthy. Oh, don't forget those cat eye sunglasses!

Child of Venus

Here we go with yet another Goldfrapp-inspired post title, whee. This time, it refers to colours associated with Venus in the popculture; because you know, today we're going with the most common portrayal of Venus as the Goddess of Love and this means pastel pink, red, white, you know the drill. As much as I'd love (sic!) to spoil you with a long rant about the slightly different meaning of Venus (hello, my esotheric interests!), it's neither the time nor place for such things.
You know, there were those times when I'd be able to do anything to dress like that - the toned-down-Harajuku-meets-classic-schoolgirl style - but I didn't really have the access to clothes that would match that idea, not to mention how conservative my surroundings were back then, haha. That was around middle school. Then, in the high school, I could've finally made my dream come true and start wearing all those plaited skirts, V-necks, cardigans, overknees... My interest in this kind of style kinda dropped for the next few years as I drifted away onto the outfits more on the hipster side. These days, my style is an explosive mix of preppy, hipster-ish and God-knows-what elements, but sometimes I still go back to those schoolgirl outfits (a bit upgraded, of course) with some kind of... nostalgia, I guess...?

Wonderful Electric

So, given the post's title, you already know that I'm hooked on Goldfrapp. Truth to be told, I've been extensively exposed to this band for more than three years by now (I can already see the person responsible for it smirking), but just recently I decided to give it a try on my own and... that's it, I fell in love (with a Strict Machine). Well, there's not much literally related to the post title's here (maybe except for the funky headphones), so I have to explain the connection that is obvious for me, but might not be obvious to you guys.
I'm blessed to have synesthesia. Contrary to popular opinion - no, I'm not tripping all day long with strange visions whenever I get signals from my senses; it's more like finding those... relationships between the senses that aren't really connected to each other in the case of a non-synesthesia person. So, what am I trying to say is that when I listen to Strict Machine, or the post's theme, I immediately think about the colours captured in this outfit: slightly dusted purple and pink hues with a hint of gray and black undertone. Does this even make sense for you? Ugh, it's kinda... hard to explain. And I'm poor at explaining anything. Sorry.

Smart

I wear shirts daily. Heck, I'm trying to be preppy (with my own twist of course), right? However, I wear them so often that they stopped being smart enough for me. That's why I decided to get my necktie&bowtie collection from the forgotten corner of my room. Today's outfit features a lovely tartan print bowtie that I've bought together with this one - they're much smaller than usual bowties which makes them so cute! The bag is a new addition to my wardrobe. At first I couldn't get used to it because the material it's made of is kinda stiff, but once everyone at my workplace found it classy, I started wearing it more and more often... until it has become a staple part of my daily smart-ish look. I added the spikes to spice it up. I wouldn't be myself if I didn't try to customize my accessories.

I'm so sorry for the long delay, but some big changes have occured in my life. There are times when I'm busy seven days a week. Why? Now I'm not only a weekend student (meaning I have to attend classes every second weekend), but I also got a job! Not a freelance one like up to this time, but a five-days-a-week, nine-to-five one. That's really big. Plus, my photographer (who happens to be my BFF) has got a job, too. That means we're both super busy. Not that I'm complaining, but meeting for a photoshoot (and obligatory dinner+coffee afterwards) seems really impossible most of the time. Luckily enough, now that days are getting longer and longer, we're able to meet after work and do some evening shoot - like this one. Gosh, it came out sooo dark (in a positive way!).

O • M • G

Don't let the snow in the background fool you - it was +6C and the remains of winter were just melting on our eyes (well, let's just wait till the Great Annual Winter Comeback around Easter). Finally, it was warm enough not to cover half of my outfit with a coat. So, what do we have here? Oh, the mighty oversized denim shirt. A denim shirt has been the main reason for me to start searching through second hand stores four years ago. I've found it just now, but got addicted to sh shopping in the meantime... Well, nevermind. This post also features the new statement beanie (like they love to call it nowadays), the OMG necklace... and lots of girly giggles. And because I can't help but cover my mouth everytime I giggle, much like those Japanese girls, it looks even more girly. Be prepared.

#giyongchy

We all have our role models. Mine appears to be a fairly young man who has slayed the world with his charisma, music and fashion. Because this is a personal style blog, I'll tell you about his influence on me fashion-wise. Honestly, GD has inspired me to go past my "style comfort zone" and experiment with various trends that at first don't really seem to go well together, but the more you look at them, the better they look. A few years ago I started as your average vintage/preppy lover, wearing the so-called "grandpa sweaters", neat shirts, neckties, bowties, plaid skirts... It's still the base of my outfits, but thanks to GD I know that I can break those predictable outfits with edgy elements such as heavy boots, bold jewellery, vibrant colours... The list goes on and on. He's going around in well-fitted suits most of the time, but you would NEVER call them boring because of all those prints and accessories.
As for today's outfit, I decided to pay a direct tribute to him by this custom sweatshirt with a hashtag "Giyongchy" - or a mock name of his fave brand Givenchy he uses in his music videos (you can see lots of merch with Giyongchy logo on Asian street style blogs). The rest is just my humble rendition of his comfy airport fashion, a contradiction to his polished on-stage look: leopard print, bits of gold, combat boots, giant fur hat... I know that my outerwear might not look as fabulous as his, but I'm not even trying to kid you that it's warm enough to take an off-coat shot.

Leather pants

If you've ever been/are a fan of comic books, manga or just any show and you've never been obsessed about any character in leather pants, you're probably not that much of a fan as you think. Just kidding. After the mentioned obsessions leather pants have been on my wishlist for a long time but I've never actually got around getting them (not enough money, not the style I want, not Mello enough)... well, till last week when I spotted this wonderful pair in a Vero Moda outlet. These pants are absolutely perfect in every possible way (as opposed to my legs in them but let's not go there). I know, I know, I was supposed to tone down everything I wear with this faux fur coat, but I couldn't resist pairing it together. The shirt and sweater vest have a college feel anyway, so I hope I'm kinda... justified...?

You can never go wrong with preppy

Let me introduce you the best coat ever... in my opinion, of course. It's warm and cozy, but also badass and over-the-top, so you need to be careful not to overstyle the rest of the outfit while wearing it. I couldn't resist adding another pattern, though, but to tone it down a little bit, I decided to keep it preppy. After all, you can never go wrong with preppy, right? And because my version of the college look always needs to have that interesting edgy twist, I spiced it up with combat boots and accessories, such as the flashy headphones I got for Christmas, bear-eared beanie (that isn't too obnoxious, phew) or a large skull-shaped ring. In the end, it came out kinda Harajuku-ish. Not like it's a bad thing, though; I've been obsessed with this kind of style for many, many years.
